University of Minnesota Extension is conducting a candidate search for a newly developed, full-time position in turfgrass irrigation and water resources. This position is funded for three years with the expectation that it will continue beyond that date. DEADLINE extended to March 6, 2022.

Job description

This position will contribute to outreach and research work at the University of Minnesota related to improving water efficiency and conserving water in home lawns and various turfgrass systems. The candidate will coordinate, participate in, and lead outreach programs related to turfgrass irrigation in the 7-county Twin Cities Metro Area; this will be done with programmatic supervision and collaboration from the Extension Educator for Turfgrass. The candidate will contribute to outreach and education projects funded by the Metropolitan Council and various other donors. Projects will include, but are not limited to: water conservation through the implementation of technology, public demonstrations of low maintenance grasses and irrigation systems, and drought tolerant cool-season turfgrasses. 

The person hired for this position will:

  1. Develop and execute in-person and online educational programs related to water conservation in lawns and turf systems.
  2. Maintain public demonstration projects related to lawn water conservation.
  3. Conduct program planning and evaluation, including organizing and leading quarterly meetings with the grant funder.
  4. Develop and maintain effective relationships with the Metropolitan Council, other donors, and stakeholders.
  5. Communicate effectively and positively with colleagues and stakeholders about the work.
  6. Ensure that Extension programs, facilities, committees, and employment opportunities are accessible to new, diverse, and historically underserved audiences.
