We often get questions about which grass to buy for a home lawn. There are several different options for cool-season turfgrasses grown in Minnesota; which you choose will depend on your site, how you use your lawn, how much maintenance you want to do, and maybe even aesthetics.

The Turfgrass Science team will be at the 2024 Minnesota State Fair starting Thursday, August 22 through Labor Day, September 2. We will be there all 12 days from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
State Fair preparations have begun

In 2023, with help from the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences, we redesigned our Minnesota State Fair exhibit space in the Agriculture Horticulture Building. This redesign required a lot of thought and planning to update the display’s function to better educate fairgoers on lawn care and water use (Figure 1). Although the State Fair is months away, we have already begun planning for our annual exhibit in late August.
What type of questions did people have at the 2021 Minnesota State Fair?

With the cancellation of the State Fair in 2020, the UMN turfgrass research group was primed to interact with, and answer, the many questions State Fair patrons would have. As in years past, the outreach-education booth (Figure 1) was housed within the Agriculture/Horticulture Building in the CFANS wing.
