Where can I see what this type of lawn looks like in person?

We often speak to people about the benefits of improved cultivars, species, or mixtures, and a common question by those looking to learn more is where can they go see and feel these in person. Below are two areas where folks can come and see maintained demonstration plots that are signed and open to the public.

Lawn Care Basics Workshop - register now!

Interested in having a lawn that requires less maintenance? Join Extension Educator Jon Trappe for an introductory workshop on lawn care basics on Saturday, March 22, 2025, 1:00-3:30 p.m. Attendees can register to attend in-person at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum or join via Zoom online. The fee is $45 for members of the Arboretum or $65 for non-members, and includes Arboretum admission and all supplies. Irrigation prevention at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

The summers of 2021-2023 presented significant challenges for those managing lawns or turfgrass with drought conditions, extreme temperatures, and a lack of rainfall. Many homeowners likely relied heavily on underground irrigation systems to maintain healthy grass or to follow municipal odd/even watering restrictions. Even smart irrigation systems with rain sensors, soil sensors, or weather-based controllers allowed irrigation based on weather and soil conditions due to the lack of rain.
