This presentation will update you on the latest projects being conducted at the Turfgrass Research, Outreach, and Education (TROE) Center and in field settings throughout the state of Minnesota. Topics will include reducing water use on urban and suburban lawns, low-input turfgrass species, cultivar evaluations results, no-mow fine fescues, winter stresses research, bee lawns, improving shade tolerance, seed mixture studies, and updates on UMN turfgrass breeding projects.
How Do Residents Compare Artificial vs. Natural Turfgrass

With many locations facing issues around the inputs used by natural turfgrass, the adoption of artificial turfgrass has expanded across both public and private landscapes. However little work has been done to understand how residents feel about these new artificial surfaces. This session explores new research about how residents compare artificial and natural turfgrasses and why these perceptions should matter to a variety of managers, decision-makers, and the public at large.
